Photo and bio of Colonel John Lee, "an architect and builder" born in Vermont in 1835 and coming to Kansas City in 1857 as "clerk in the American House on the Levee" before leaving for Chicago in 1858. Description of his later career, returning to Kansas City in 1885 as an architect, designing "the Orpheum Theatre, the Lutheran church at [13th] and Cherry streets, many of the Troost avenue residences and a block of twelve buildings at [13th] and Washington streets and a block at [14th] and Central streets."
