Photo and bio of Captain John Eneberg (1825-1904), "president of the Kansas City Lumber Company and one of the leading business men of western Missouri." He was a native of Sweden who emigrated to Lexington, Missouri in the early 1850s, becoming a grocery store owner, Union Civil War officer and establishing the railroad town of Bates City, Missouri, in 1875. He moved to Kansas City in 1880, organizing "the Kansas City Lumber Company, with offices and lumberyard at the corner of Twentieth and Walnut streets," building his own house in 1886 at 1606 McGee Street.
