Portrait and biographical sketch of Colonel George Gross, "a Confederate veteran of the Civil war," who was born in Arkansas in 1847 and came to Kansas City in 1874 as a salesman for hardware stores including the Kansas City Hardware Company (as well as the Duncan-Wyeth Hardware Company and the Hall & Willis Hardware Company). He served in the Spanish-American War and then became "engaged in the business of selling mines and mineral and timber lands."
