Biographical sketch of Dr. John Jackson (1834-1890), a surgeon and native of Maryland who moved to Missouri in 1859 and served in the Civil War before "buil[ding] up the first railway hospital system ever established east of the Rocky mountains." He came to Kansas City in 1884 as president and "chair of surgery in the Kansas City Medical College," residing at 15th and Broadway with his widow moving to 2629 Forest Avenue after his death.
