Second of a two-part series of biographical articles about Colonel John Reid (1820-1881), with illustration, photo (of Reid), and description of his later life and career, returning to Jackson County after the Mexican War in 1847 as a lawyer, Missouri state representative, and anti-abolitionist (capturing John Brown and killing one of his sons) in I850s Independence. Moving to Liberty during the Civil War and afterwards to Kansas City as "president of the Kansas City Savings Association" and co-organizer of "the Kansas City Board of Trade in 1869" with residence "just north of the municipal auditorium."
