John L. Johnson was the third mayor of Kansas City serving for only 35 days in 1855 before he resigned. He came to the city in 1852 and dealt in real estate. He was also an architect and supposedly designed the Broadway Hotel (Coates House) and possibly the first city hall located at 4th and Main. After leaving the city he moved to Wallula, Kansas, where he died in 1903.
