Biographical article about James Baird (1767-1826), an early and rarely documented Santa Fe trader. Native of Pennsylvania moving to Saint Louis, Missouri in 1810 as a blacksmith before traveling to Santa Fe, Mexico in 1812 with Robert McKnight and Samuel Chambers, imprisoned there until 1820. List of their provisions and credit to Zebulon Pike as a model included.
