On one occasion he [Dr. McGinnis] carried a dispatch to Kansas City for Gen. Lane, to be delivered to a man by the name of Brown, who was then having a trial at the hands of the border ruffians. His identity was not discovered until about the time he got through with his business, and by clever management he made his escape.
