By April 8th, the Army of the West, while on the journey across the State of Arkansas, had reached Des Arc, Ark. On this date, Major General Sterling Price resigned his commission as commander of the Missouri State Guard. Price had command the Guard almost eleven months. The same day, Gov. Claiborne Fox Jackson appointed a new commander of the Missouri State Guard - Brig. General Mosby Monroe Parsons. Article gives information on Parsons and about the Missouri State Guard under him.
