Description
This journal article describes the history of The Kansas City Project. Established in 1955 by R. Richard Wohl of the University of Chicago, this project used Kansas City as a laboratory for studying entrepreneurship and urban development. Wohl and his researchers prepared working papers on "topics such as biographies of leading businessmen, the meat-packing industry, and railroad development". One of the researchers, Charles N. Glaab, produced the book Kansas City and the Railroads and A. Theodore Bown wrote The Politics of Reform: Kansas City's Municipal Government, 1925-1950. After Wohl's untimely death, Brown took over the project until it was completed in 1958. The project gave birth to the new discipline of urban history.
