Description
Portrait and biographical sketch of Dr. Thomas Bryan Lester, or Thomas Lester (1824-1888), a physician and medical writer teacher in Kansas City. Born in Virginia and serving the Union in the Mexican War and the Civil War before coming to Kansas City in 1854, appointed president of "the Kansas City Medical College (formerly the College of Physicians and Surgeons)" in 1877. Builder of "the Grand View Hotel, on the high bluff overlooking Main street" in 1858 and his own mansion in 1859 at the southwest corner of 6th and Walnut Streets, replaced "by the new Waterworks Building."
