Hale Auditorium was named for H. D. Hale, or Joe Hale, and Joyce Hale of Prairie Village, Kansas, in honor of their one million dollar gift for the new (1992) American Royal complex. The Hales own a large cattle ranch north of Manhattan, Kansas, and several farms in central Kansas.
