Former Lenexa, Kansas, mayor Rich Becker died June 24, 2007, of heart failure at age 76. He was mayor from 1983 to 1995 and a state lawmaker from 1995 to 2000. "Among other things, he was credited with pushing for new schools west of Interstate 35, the construction of the Quivira Road viaduct between 87th Street and 95th Streets and the rise of the city's annual barbecue and spinach festivals." While mayor he also saw Lenexa become the state's 12th-largest city. Article includes his photograph.
