Description
Of the five policemen being considered for the new chief are three Kansas City policemen and two from smaller, out-of-state departments. The three from Kansas City are current deputy chiefs Darryl Forte and Kevin Masters and retired deputy chief Vince Ortega (the current deputy director for Jackson County's COMBAT anti-drug program). The outside candidates are Fayetteville, N.C., Police Chief Tom Bergamine and former Rochester, N.Y., Police Deputy Chief George Markert. "Board members expect to tap one of them in October to replace retiring Police Chief Jim Corwin, the city's longest-tenured chief in nearly four decades." September 16 will be Corwin's last day. Article includes several short biographical paragraphs for each candidate.
