Page 5: "The first ferry operating at or near the mouth of the Kansas river over the Missouri was established in 1825 by Joseph Boggs, a resident of Clay County, Missouri. Richard Linville also started one the same year. A third ferry, operated by John Thornton, was located 'at or near the Blue Bank.' In May, 1825, a road was laid out from Liberty to Thornton's ferry; another ran from Liberty to the Missouri river 'at the boat landing at the town of Gallatin[']; still another ran from Liberty to the mouth of the Kansas river."
