Description
Biographical sketch of James Basil Prather, or James Prather "banker, merchant and capitalist" of Maryville, Missouri. Born in Kentucky in 1834 and moving to Nodaway County, Missouri, in 1841 with his father "Colonel Prather" or I. N. Prather (host of the establishment of the first county court at his home in 1845 and later becoming sheriff before dying in 1845) and "settling in White Cloud Township, about eight miles south of Maryville." Founder of "the first drug store in Maryville" and "one of the founders of the Nodaway Valley Bank" there.
