Three ministers are listed in the book as early forces in the pre-World War I African American community in Kansas City. They include: Samuel William Bacote, pastor of the Second Baptist Church; T.H. Ewing of the Vine Street Church; and James Wesley Hurse who led the formation of St. Stephen's Baptist Church. The men's contributions are given as well as a sermon by Reverend Hurse on p. 48-50.
