Description
Photos, map, and article about the resurgence (especially since urban renewal in the 1990s centering around the City Market and Delaware Street) of the River Market, the site of the original Town of Kansas (early Kansas City also called Westport Landing or the Levee) in Downtown Kansas City, Missouri north of Independence Avenue and between Highway 9 and Highway 169. Photos or descriptions of several businesses taking part in the renaissance including the River Market Brewing Company and Planters Seed Company, etc."Far from the homogeny and calculated cul-de-sacs of the suburbs, the River Market serves up a daily medley of urban delights seasoned with the disparate cultures of Amish farmers, Somali immigrants, tech-savvy young entrepreneurs and rugged city sages such as Joe" (p. 39). "The River Market's rapid growth during the last six years turned an area once infamous as a nest of unlawful enterprise and adult entertainment into a bedroom community and social hub for progressive urbanites" (p. 41).
