Description
Donald Ray Hale died on February 24, 2008, in Lee's Summit, Missouri. He was born December 23, 1930, in Leeds, Missouri, to Lester L. and Dorothy Hale. He was the author of several books and articles concerning guerrilla warfare figures in this area during the pre-Civil War days as well as the Civil War era. His great grandfather rode with William Quantrill and this connection resulted in Hale's studies of both Quantrill and "Bloody" Bill Anderson. "Don was honored by being a pallbearer for the reburial of Quantrill bones and the Jesse James reburial. Don became the founding president of the William Clarke Quantrill Society in 1998. At the same time, he served until recently as the president of the Lee's Summit Historical Society, writing five volumes documenting Lee's Summit history, 1830-1992."
