Description
William L. Dawson, trombonist and composer, graduated from Tuskegee Institute in 1921. In 1925, he received the degree of bachelor of music from the Institute of Fine Arts, Kansas City, Missouri. In 1927, he received the degree of Master of Music from Chicago Musical College. Dawson was director of music at Lincoln High School, Kansas City, Missouri, in 1922-1926. In November, 1934, his "Negro Symphony" had its world premiere when played by the Philadelphia Symphony conducted by Leopold Stokowski.
