Biographical sketch of Colonel Robert Thompson Van Horn, "distinguished for brilliant and eminently useful services as journalist, soldier and statesman" in Kansas City. Born in Pennsylvania in 1824 and coming to Kansas City in 1855 as publisher and editor of the "Western Journal of Commerce" newspaper before becoming the city's sixth mayor, a national representative from Missouri, and a Union Civil War officer.
