Description
Photo and bio of Colonel Robert Van Horn (1824-1916), mayor of Kansas City in 1861 and 1864. Native of Pennsylvania coming here in 1855 as a buyer of "the 'Enterprise,' a newspaper which later became the 'Western Journal of Commerce' and the 'Kansas City Journal.'" Also a national representative from Missouri, Union Civil War officer, and Hannibal Bridge promoter, with residences at his "Honeywood" estate (later the site of Van Horn High School) and earlier "on the east side of Walnut Street between Chestnut and Ottawa (11th to 12th)."
