Solar Fire Station: The first solar heated fire station in the midwest has been in operation at 22nd and Hardesty since March 15. The station is using 2,800 square feet of collectors on the roof for both space and water heating. There are also 71 tons of enclosed rock for storing enough heat for 1 1/2 days. The station has an electric heating system for times when there's no sun for several days in a row.
