Biographical sketch of General George Rappeen Smith, or George Smith (1804-1879), "founder of Sedalia, Mo." Native of Virginia moving to Pettis County, Missouri in 1833 as a government freighter to Santa Fe and later becoming a railroad promoter for the Missouri Pacific Railway to pass through his town founded in 1857 and called Sedville, Missouri for his daughter (nicknamed "Sed").
