Portrait and biographical sketch of Benjamin Holmes (1846-1914), mayor of Kansas City in 1890 and a native of Independence, Missouri, coming to Kansas City in the early 1870s as a livestock dealer with residence on East 5th Street. Description of his later career, moving to 9th and Prospect Avenues in 1885 and elected city treasurer in 1886 with residence then at 727 Prospect Avenue, and "starting our renowned park and boulevard system, with A. R. Meyer as president, and George Kessler, landscape planner.
